Westmead Hospital Redevelopment

MSJ in conjunction with HDR were commissioned on the Masterplan, Concept Design and Scheme Design for the $750M Westmead Hospital Redevelopment.

The study entailed the amalgamation of Westmead Adult’s and Westmead Children’s Hospital Acute Services into one Facility, within the centre of the existing campus.

The Westmead Redevelopment builds on the past success of the precinct, in which MSJ played a role in the design and documentation of the New Children’s Hospital, and ensures that the Westmead Hospital is able to fulfil its role as the major tertiary referral hospital for Western Sydney and one of seven major trauma centres for adults in NSW.

In February 2015, the NSW Government announced more than $900 million towards the redevelopment of Westmead precinct.

This included:

  • $750 million for Stage 1 of the redevelopment of Westmead Hospital
  • $72 million for hospital car parking
  • $95 million for The Children’s Hospital at Westmead

The first stage of the Westmead Redevelopment is focussed on setting up the Westmead precinct to support the delivery of high-end clinical services, education and research.  It will co-locate complex and critical care services into a multi-storey, centrally located acute services building.

The acute services building will include new state-of-the-art operating theatres, extra inpatient beds and a new emergency department.
