Bathurst Hospital

The redevelopment of Bathurst base Hospital on the existing hospital site entailed careful planning to allow the existing hospital to remain in operation throughout the construction phase.
The new hospital bed numbers increased to 149 beds, up from 85. Previously psychiatric patients had to travel to Orange to the Bloomfield Hospital for treatment, however the new Bathurst Hospital features a comprehensive mental health unit. The new hospital includes state-of-the art facilities, an emergency department, rehabilitation facilities including a hydro therapy pool, and helipad for transfers to and from the hospital.
The building’s architecture and interior finishes were designed to be sympathetic to the patina and scale of the heritage hospital buildings. The current ward block was demolished leaving the original building from the late 19th century intact, and the redevelopment included the refurbishment.
