Alice Springs Hospital Master Plan

MSJ completed a specific commission for the Alice Springs Hospital Campus in 2011. The Alice Springs Campus is a unique campus in that it needs to respond to its largely indigenous clientele, while providing a large range of clinical services to its catchment population. Consisting of a seven hectare site the Hospital provides community primary and acute services to a vast population that surrounds Alice Springs. The seven hectare campus plan accommodates a significant growth in acute and primary services within a frame work establishing expandable services while recognising the importance of a legible circulation structure, significant out door space, and a language that is respectful of indigenous sensibilities.
The site has been zoned for expansion of mental health, acute inpatient and community services around a pedestrian street opening to the natural environment and utilising passive and active energy solutions. With a rise of 77% of inpatient admissions beyond the existing approx. 200 beds, the campus remains flexible through the careful zoning and allocation of expansion zones to accommodate the anticipated growth to approximately 316 beds in 2020.
